Anavissos, situated 50 kms from Athens and 2O kms from El Venizelos International airport, is one of the most attractive costal tourist resorts of southern Attica, with large sandy beaches and quiet secluded coves.
Neighbouring communities are Fokia, with its famous fish tavernas on the beach and small fishing harbour, Saronida with its cafes, bars and restaurants, Lavrion, a bustling port for the East Cyclades with numerous bars, cafes, clubs, restaurants and Sounio with its spectacular villas and small secluded beaches.
The area has a long history with the production and cultivation of wine. In fact, according to legend, Dionysos first gave the residents of Attica the secrets for the cultivation of the grape and winemaking. The nearby villages of Koropi, Markopoulo, Kalyvia, Kouvaras as well as Anavissos, with their dry vineyards, remain even today as the most representative wine producing sites in Attica.
SIGHTSEEING IN ATTICA :
The region of Attica is full of archaeological sites, since this area produced wheat, olive oil and wine in great quantities, which became the symbols of the great civilisations born in this area.
Sights to be visited:
The Byzantine churches at Koropi.
The ancient mines, the sanctuaries of Dionysus and Dimitra and the theatre of Thoriko at Lavrio.
The famous temple of Possidon at Cape Sounio, completed in 440 BC, with its slender, salt white columns that are still a landmark for ships heading towards Piraeus.

Day trips can be arranged to Athens, Delfi and the islands of the Saronic Gulf though your hotel/tour operator.
Daily boat excursions are possible from Lavrio port to the nearby islands of Kea, Tinos, Paros, Milos.
During the winter months January – April snow skiing is also possible at the nearby ski stations of Kalavrita, Parnassos and Menalo. A special combination package of scuba diving and skiing is available on request.
SHOPPING IN THE AREA :
A variety of local artisan products can be purchased in Saronida, Fokia and Lavrion., (jewellery, pottery etc.) and all these towns offer a selection of high quality clothing boutiques plus local markets/stores selling local produce.
RESTAURANTS IN THE REGION:
Everywhere, you can find restaurants with the traditional Greek cuisine either overlooking the sea or hidden amongst the pine/olive groves.
Due to their proximity to the sea and the fishing fleets based in Lavrio and Fokia, the majority of the tavernas have an excellent choice of sea food.
Italian cuisine can be appreciated in Saronida and Lavrio.
NIGHTLIFE IN THE AREA: Lavrio has a number of night clubs and many cafes/bars situated around the port and picturesque town square. Saronida with its open air cinema, as well as numerous sidewalk cafes and bars, is an ideal place to spend a pleasant evening
